A Final Project and an "Old" Photo

One of my favorite classes, possibly ever, has been Amanda Profaizer's pattern drafting class. For our final project we patterned and then constructed three half scale outfits.
I made:
A suit jacket with three piece sleeves and a pleated slip dress.
The jacket has a really cute rosebud button and teal lining. I love contrasting lining in jackets. The pleats got a little messed up when I put in the side zipper but I think I would know how to do a better job in a full scale outfit.
I also made a yellow silk dress with long sleeves and a cowl neck back.
This is technically the second version of this dress. The first one was a fantastic pink silk but it was sort of skanky-short. If a real person wore it, they would need to wear pants or have a really short torso and then not move.
I also made a really cute dress with neck darts and lantern sleeves. I am strongly considering making this dress for reals, although with a pencil skirt and smaller sleeves.
The front view. I am really loving the four darts in the neckline!
Here is teal lining of the wool jacket. I am really proud of this!
Last up is a photo I meant to post a while ago but I didn't get around to it.
Hilary and Avery came to visit my parents for Spring break. They met us at Maddox for dinner so James could meet Hil and Ave. I wish this picture wasn't so zoomed out but I guess this is what you get for having a random person take a photo!
Next week is finals week. We are now less than 100 days until the wedding.
CRAZY!

Sisters, together again

For the first time, TWO Keller kids went to the prom this year. No, Alex did not take Lauren. That would be weird and they are much too popular and cool for those shenanigans.
Hil and I helped Lauren get ready. I did her hair although it was only after she ratted her hair to her specifications. But I did help her curl it AND I pinned it in to place. I totally helped.

Notice two things in this picture:
1) Lauren's tan. Hil and I are striking shades of pale. Even Avery is in on the pale action.
2) It's official. She is taller than both of us. She's wearing Converse style Vans under her dress.

Nice.

I'm taking a break...honest!

TWO AND A HALF MORE WEEKS OF THE SEMESTER!
Is it just me or this quite possibly the LONGEST Spring semester, ever? With that being said, I'm sort of glad that there are still a week and a half to get stuff done.

What sort of stuff do I have to get done?
I'm glad you asked.

I have rendering for "Always...Patsy Cline."
I have to construct three outfits for this lovely half-sized figure, Louise. I'm going to make a shirt dress, a dressy dress and a fancy dress. I will keep you posted on how they actually turn out. I started the dressy dress today and it didn't do what I wanted it to do. Good think I have time to work on it.
As part of a "tradition," James and I took another picture of ourselves at the linger longer (quite possibly the only thing I'll really miss about a single student ward.)
Apart from the partion backdrop, it's not a bad photo! We are now 109 days away from the wedding but I'm not REALLY counting down.

(I also have to finish my renderings for costume design. I'm designing "The Firebird." So far, so good!)

Productivity, not just for robots!

I had a nice weekend. How about you?

James and I went on a hike (don't we look outdoorsy?)

I also worked on my designs for Patsy Cline. I'm really happy with how they look so far. I haven't talked to the director yet but hopefully she will like them!

  • My shoes came on Friday and not only are they elegant, but they are comfortable! I'm really excited that they work out.

  • Has anyone seen that funny Kotex commercial? You can see it here.

  • I think I'm starting to like old country music. It sort of goes against most of my musical beliefs. Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline, I blame you.
Comments?

Wedding colors

I know I have told people that I'm not having wedding colors but I realise that is a mistake. I love color! Why wouldn't I have wedding colors? Here are some swatches to give you a rough idea of what we've planned (it's more of a royal "we" because James is color blind.)

First up, a "muted hot pink" (the sample is acutally a nail polish sample but it's the color I love)

Next up is a bright sage green:
I'm not sure what to call this last color but it's sort of a muted gold/metallic dove gray. The samples I have used here are actually samples from my nail polish and shoes. Yep, I am THAT good at matching colors on-line.

I'm going slightly off the goldish color for my flowers and using yellow. I didn't want to have yellow as a wedding color because it can be hard to wear. I'm really pleased with the colors and I can't wait to see how it all comes together!
As far as other updates go, we found an apartment! I'm moving in first and then James will join me after we're married because that is how we do things. School is starting to wind down for the semester. I have two more shows to design, one is just for class and the other one is for the Lyric season: Always...Patsy Cline. It opens June 30th and runs June 30-July 3, 2 p.m. matinee on 3rd, July 16, July 21, July 24, with additional 2 p.m. matinee and it closes on July 28. The performances begin at 7:30 p.m. More information can be found here.
