Do you ever feel like this?

Despite appearances, this picture is of six kids who are actually very intelligent and quite cute. It's just a bad photo. I sort of feel like that is how this week has been. I'm not really an awful person, I just seem like it. It's really frustrating when things just don't work out even though you've been trying really hard. It's almost like the more you do the more you fail. That is SUCH a terrible outlook! I can't wait for Thanksgiving break: family and my favorite meal of the year.

Honestly, have you ever seen a worse picture?

Projects (My own and others)

I just have to say as much as I appreciate people being on task and able to get things done early, WHAT is with the SNOW???? Really, Mother Nature? REALLY?!? I mean, it's only the end of October, can't we get to Thanksgiving before this stuff flies? Maybe? Please??? I don't want four months of winter.

I've been working on my Halloween project here at school and a little at home. Last week I covered the florist foam pieces so that this week I would be able to paint them. The other items in the picture are my first attempt at a skeleton hand and a mummy mask. Unfortuately the mask didn't photograph well but it looks better in real life. I'm really happy with the large hands. They are so creepy! After I took this picture I decided that the face was too cl
ean when compared to the hands so...

I dirtied it up with more paint, applied with a natural sponge as opposed to the brush I had used earlier. I'm pretty happy with the result. It seems to coordinate with the hands much better than before. Now I just need to worry about putting the whole monster together!
Wish me luck!

Another project that I am really excited about is my niece's birthday cake.
Hilary and I are going to collaborate again. I really love working with Hil! The idea is that we are going to make a cake that looks something like this:

Obviously we can't construct a cake that is as thin because it would fall over. We're going to change the proportions and the colors but the idea is there. I'm really excited. This weekend can't come soon enough!

The next photo is from Weber State's costume shop. The talented Jim Christian has written a muscial based on the Legend of Sleepy Hollow. While I was dropping something off, Jean Louise (their fantastic shop manager) showed off the leather horse heads the shop has constructed. It's a really cool concept!

This last photo isn't really a project, it's a prank.

Who door bell ditches and leave a three year old jar of capers on a doorstep?
Really, I'd like to know.

Birthdays and Teeth

I recently received a piece of mail addressed to "Aunt Lindsay" from my niece, Avery. It was an invitation to her birthday party. This is the picture my sister, Hilary, chose for the invitation:

Say what you will about head flowers, this one is cute!
Here is another shot that shows off her adorable blonde hair:
I PROMISE, my niece has eyes. I just wound up choosing pictures where her eyes are closed.

Speaking of physical oddities, I noticed something about myself recently. I have rather sizable chompers. I noticed it a few days ago during dress rehearsals for "Sweeney Todd" when I was helping people with hair and make-up. It was really weird and it got me thinking about a picture that was posted on Facebook at a friend's wedding:I look like I'm wearing fake teeth, like those hillbilly teeth if they had had proper dental care! Also, it made me realize how out of shape I really am but that's another story. Why do my teeth look so massive? Is it a physical actuality or just a bad photo? If it is just a bad photo, how do you explain the realization in the dressing room mirrors? It's a mystery!

BUT, it could also just be a culmination of the past two weeks worth of work and lack of sleep. You can blame sleep deprivation on a host of maladies...right?

Green and Black

I've come to realize that graduate school in the theatre is a heck of a lot different than graduate school for something like...education or physics. I am enrolled in a puppet making class and as part of the class I have learned how to carve florist foam. As part of my Halloween project I made these!
Yep, giant green skeleton hands. I'll post more pictures when I get more work done. It's due on the Wednesday before Halloween and I think I'll be done. The next project is for Sweeney Todd. I started the dress last Tuesday and I'm almost done. I'm going to leave the final say to the designer, Amanda.

By the way, it's supposed to be tacky, hence the fringe trim. I'm sort of excited by it.
More to come...

I'm not a shopaholic

I'm just sick of walking to school with wet feet.
And they were on sale.
Who knew Logan was such a wet place?

I attended my mission reunion last night. I was so excited to see President and Sister Layton again, it had been a year and a half. I missed last October's reunion because I wanted to visit my sister and her husband in Las Vegas. I missed April's reunion because of car problems. I was NOT going to miss this one! As usual, I brought my camera but took only two pictures. I should have taken a picture with the Laytons. Ah, regret.

I was really excited to see my trainer, Katie George VanValkenburg. She and her husband have an adorable little boy, it's kind of hard to believe. Here is a picture from our mission:

Between us is Janet Williams, whose grandson is married to my sister! I really enjoyed getting to know the Williams during my time in New York.

And here is a shot we took as we talked at a table. We probably should have had someone else take the picture.
Oh well!
